Country and language are different dimensions

A sign in a language does not necessarily belong to a single country. Research should identify where the activity is observed and what territorial coverage the source has.

Starts with comparable products

Two products with similar names may differ in specifications, availability or channel. Normalizing entities and attributes helps to avoid comparisons that mix different segments.

Aligns periods and coverage

A monthly series should not be compared without context with a timely capture. Coverage of manufacturers, distributors and categories can also vary by country. That difference should be accompanied by the conclusion.

See for contrasting hypotheses

If a trend seems to emerge in a market earlier, it investigates its precedents and possible explanations. The time sequence helps to ask questions; it does not show in itself that the change will be repeated in another country.
